Camden on the Big Screen

April 14th, 2014

Anyone who’s been to Camden knows what a beautiful place it is, but did you know Camden’s made it onto the big screen more than a few times?

Some of the scenes from 1956’s Carousel were filmed in Camden, and around that same time crews arrived in Camden to film the controversial Peyton Place – a bestselling novel that was so shocking for its time that it couldn’t be found at the town library.

While 1995’s Casper is set in Friendship, most of the coastal Maine town that’s seen in the movie was filmed right here in Camden.

The film version of Thinner, a thriller from prolific Maine horror writer Stephen King, was filmed in Camden and other Mid-Coast Maine locations.

In the Bedroom was shot up and down the coast of Maine, including the Camden and Rockport region. After its release it won an award at the Sundance Film Festival.

The late soap opera Passions used shots of Camden to represent the fictional town of Harmony in its opening credits.

Have you noticed Camden anywhere we haven’t?

Mud Package

April 7th, 2014

3698_RitualsHammamBodyMud_1336681144Spring has sprung, and with it comes budding trees, flower buds, new life.. and mud. Any Mainer can tell you that “Mud Season” is a good sign – an indicator that warm weather has arrived to melt away the last of the winter snow. At Camden Harbour Inn we embrace mud in our own way with our “Mud Package.”

The package includes a 2 night stay in one of our luxurious guestrooms or suites, but don’t let your handsomely appointed accommodations fool you – there will be no shortage of “mud” during your stay.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a Mudslide cocktail at the bar (or a glass of bubbles if you’re not ready to jump right in). In your room we’ve left a special gift: Rituals Hammam Body Mud, a purifying clay with refreshing eucalyptus that will wash your winter blues away. You’re invited to start each day with our a la carte Champagne breakfast, featuring our “Muddy Chip Pancakes,” freshly baked pastries, homemade signature granola, and so much more.

Spend the afternoon relaxing at Cellardoor Winery or pamper yourself with a hot stone massage in the spa before a 5-course tasting dinner at Natalie’s. You will, of course, have  the option to choose our delectable “Muddy Molten Chocolate Cake” for dessert.

Mud Season only lasts for so long, and so does this limited time offer. Book today and stay through May 16.

Easter Brunch

With Easter Sunday just a few short weeks away, we’re eagerly anticipating our annual Easter Brunch at Natalie’s.

Typically reserved for guests at the Inn, we encourage members of the community to join us for brunch at Natalie’s only twice each year: on Easter and Mother’s Day. We hope you’ll join us for Easter (or both!) this year.

Our one-of-a-kind Easter Brunch features our famous carving station, a number of exquisite savory and sweet dishes, and the opportunity to have your Easter eggs prepared by our chef any way you like them. Pastry chef Jason Sturdivant will be busy baking a selection of fresh pastries and danish, warm breads, and delectable desserts throughout the morning. And, since sweets are a traditional holiday treat, we will also have a delicious selection of offerings from Black Dinah Chocolatiers.

Our Easter Brunch sold out last year, so plan to spend the morning with us and reserve your spot today. Brunch is offered at $39 per person, including non-alcoholic drinks, with mimosas and cocktails also available. Price excludes tax and gratuity.

Call Natalie’s today for reservations at 207-236-7008.

End of Winter Activities

March 19th, 2014

We’re ready for spring, but if you want to make the most of these last few wintery weeks, here are some places to take advantage of the cold weather:

Camden Hills State Park
A popular spot in summer, Camden Hills State Park stays busy throughout the winter months as well. Well-groomed trails allow for year-round hiking and snowshoeing in the winter.

snowshoeCamden Snow Bowl
With groomed Nordic trails throughout the season, the Snow Bowl offers the perfect opportunity for skiers and snowshoers to enjoy a day outdoors. The 2 mile “22 Tacks” trail connects to a 3 mile loop on a an adjacent property and, when conditions permit, there is both a classic track and a lane for skate skiing.

The winter trail map can be viewed here.

Georges River Land Trust
Parts of the Georges River Land Trust are open for exploration throughout the year. Click above to view the various preserves, plan some winter adventuring, and learn more about places you might like to visit when the weather gets warmer.

Merryspring Nature Center
At the Camden/Rockport border sits the Merryspring Nature Center, a privately owned 66-acre park that’s open year-round. Open to hikers, snowshoers, and skiers, the park also houses an education center and regularly holds a “Talk Series” and weekend workshops.

Of course, we’ll save a spot for you when you’re ready to come warm up by the fire.

Maine Restaurant Week Signature Event

March 10th, 2014

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the Maine Restaurant Week Signature Event, an evening celebrating sips and sweets from some of Maine’s best bartenders and dessert makers.

The entire team from Natalie’s had an incredible evening, and in the end Executive Chef Shelby Stevens took home the prize for Down East Magazine’s Best of Maine cocktail – a new award this year – with her “Maine Pinetini.” The cocktail won judges over with its great taste and Maine theme, complete with a pine foam topper made by steeping pine needles in water and then adding gelatin to create a foam.

Shelby has shared her recipe so you can try your hand at the winning cocktail at home:

Maine Pinetini

1.5 oz Double Cross Vodka

1 oz of Ginger Liquor

1/4 oz Cardamom Simple Syrup

2.5 oz of Clementine Juice

1 oz of Lime Juice & Zest

Pinch of Ground Cardamom

Pine Foam on Top

- Mix the first six ingredients together and shake with ice then strain into a martini glass. To garnish top with pine foam.

*Pine foam is made by steeping pine needles in water as you would tea. The pine “tea” is then mixed with gelatin and placed in an ISI charger.

* Cardamom simple syrup is made by mixing two parts sugar with one part water and whole cardamom.

Thank you to all of our guests who joined us during Maine Restaurant Week!
