Camden on the Big Screen

Anyone who’s been to Camden knows what a beautiful place it is, but did you know Camden’s made it onto the big screen more than a few times?

Some of the scenes from 1956’s Carousel were filmed in Camden, and around that same time crews arrived in Camden to film the controversial Peyton Place – a bestselling novel that was so shocking for its time that it couldn’t be found at the town library.

While 1995’s Casper is set in Friendship, most of the coastal Maine town that’s seen in the movie was filmed right here in Camden.

The film version of Thinner, a thriller from prolific Maine horror writer Stephen King, was filmed in Camden and other Mid-Coast Maine locations.

In the Bedroom was shot up and down the coast of Maine, including the Camden and Rockport region. After its release it won an award at the Sundance Film Festival.

The late soap opera Passions used shots of Camden to represent the fictional town of Harmony in its opening credits.

Easter Brunch

With Easter Sunday just a few short weeks away, we’re eagerly anticipating our annual Easter Brunch at Natalie’s.

Typically reserved for guests at the Inn, we encourage members of the community to join us for brunch at Natalie’s only twice each year: on Easter and Mother’s Day. We hope you’ll join us for Easter (or both!) this year.

Our one-of-a-kind Easter Brunch features our famous carving station, a number of exquisite savory and sweet dishes, and the opportunity to have your Easter eggs prepared by our chef any way you like them. Pastry chef Jason Sturdivant will be busy baking a selection of fresh pastries and danish, warm breads, and delectable desserts throughout the morning. And, since sweets are a traditional holiday treat, we will also have a delicious selection of offerings from Black Dinah Chocolatiers.

Kennebunkport Festival

As always, Chef Long and Chef Stevens will source their ingredients from local Maine fishermen and farmers for an exquisite presentation of Maine’s freshest summer offerings. Paired with wine from Cellardoor Winery, the meal will be an unforgettable experience.

Maine Restaurant Week Signature Event

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the Maine Restaurant Week Signature Event, an evening celebrating sips and sweets from some of Maine’s best bartenders and dessert makers.

The entire team from Natalie’s had an incredible evening, and in the end Executive Chef Shelby Stevens took home the prize for Down East Magazine’s Best of Maine cocktail – a new award this year – with her “Maine Pinetini.” The cocktail won judges over with its great taste and Maine theme, complete with a pine foam topper made by steeping pine needles in water and then adding gelatin to create a foam.

Shelby has shared her recipe so you can try your hand at the winning cocktail at home:


Maine Pinetini

1.5 oz Double Cross Vodka

1 oz of Ginger Liquor

1/4 oz Cardamom Simple Syrup

2.5 oz of Clementine Juice

1 oz of Lime Juice & Zest

Pinch of Ground Cardamom

Pine Foam on Top


- Mix the first six ingredients together and shake with ice then strain into a martini glass. To garnish top with pine foam.

*Pine foam is made by steeping pine needles in water as you would tea. The pine “tea” is then mixed with gelatin and placed in an ISI charger.

* Cardamom simple syrup is made by mixing two parts sugar with one part water and whole cardamom.

The Second City Touring Company returns to Camden

On March 14, we have the pleasure of welcoming the return of Chicago’s famous sketch comedy theatre, The Second City Touring Company, to Camden.

The Second City will present “Happily Ever Laughter,” a show that draws from classic comedy as well as current affairs, at the Camden Opera House. You may even be one of the first to see the next big comic legend – The Second City Touring Company has been graced by some of comedy’s biggest stars over the years including Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Stephen Colbert, and Amy Poehler.

Make the night even more special with our Second City Lodging Package. The one-night package includes breakfast, a 3-course dinner at our award-winning restaurant Natalie’s, VIP seating for the show and admission to a special after party Meet and Greet with the up and coming comedy stars. Maine Restaurant Week

Maine Restaurant Week is just around the corner and we have some special events planned in addition to the tasting menu we’ll be offering during Restaurant Week, March 1-10.

On Wednesday March 5, we will host a wine dinner featuring SoPo Wines with Joe Ricchio at Natalie’s. Joe currently manages the sake bar at Miyake Diner in Portland and is the Food Editor for Maine Magazine. He is an established food writer and has been published in the London Guardian, Bon Appetit, and Vice.

Friday March 7 and Saturday March 8 you can join us for a Champagne Ice Bar and two very special cocktail dinners with guest mixologist Greg Bell, who is a bartender at the Michelin Star gastropub The Spotted Pig in NYC. He studied the craft of cocktail making under one of this century’s best bartenders, Sasha Petraske.

Greg Bell will join Natalie’s mixologist Seth Knowlton for a Master Class in Cocktail Making on Saturday March 8, from 2-4pm. The $15 registration fee includes tastings of different cocktails, liquors, spirits discussed during the Master Class. Call us to reserve your spot.

Finally, our mixologist Seth Knowlton and Pastry Chef Jason Sturdivant will be participating in the cocktail and dessert competitions at Maine Restaurant Week’s Signature Event in Portland on Sunday March 9. Tickets to this event are available online and sell out each year. We have won the title of Best Cocktail twice and have been ranked at the top every other year.

Michael David Winery Dinner

We have a very special dinner coming up on February 20, featuring the wines of Michael David Winery. The five course menu, created by Executive Chefs Chris Long and Shelby Stevens in partnership with Michael David Winery, pairs each dish perfectly with an accompanying glass of wine.

The menu features enticing pairings like the first course: Shellfish Terrine with Kiwi, Lemon Grass, Ginger and Kumquat paired with a 2012 Sauvignon Blanc. The third course, Monkfish with Lentils, Ham Hock, Charred Leeks, and Smoked Date Emulsion, is paired with Michael David’s 2010 Inkblot – a Cabernet Franc with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah blended in.
