Two of Camden’s most popular events take place in one very busy weekend at the end of September. Vinfest, held by our friends at Cellardoor, is a two-day celebration of Maine wine, food, music and fun. There are still tickets available to the Wine Extravaganza on Saturday, September 28 and for dessert and a very special concert with Wavelength, The Company of Men and Taylor Dane the night before. If you’ve never gone to Vinfest you are missing an extraordinary event. It’s definitely an annual highlight for us, we go every year and always have a great time.
Beginning Thursday, September 27, Camden fills up with documentary filmmakers and fans from across the country and even around the world. The Camden International Film Festival, or “CIFF”, began in 2005 as an event dedicated solely to bringing together nonfiction artists to celebrate documentary filmmaking. Today, CIFF is recognized as one of the top 25 documentary film festivals in the world, one of the 12 best “small town” film festivals in the US and New England’s most respected documentary event. The Festival takes place in beautiful and unusual venues in Camden, Rockport and Rockland, Maine. Screenings are followed by intimate Q&A sessions with directors and industry professionals. Festivities over the weekend include panels, workshops, photographic exhibits, musical concerts and exclusive parties.
The Points North Documentary Forum is a particularly interesting portion of the Festival. It provides skilled filmmakers an opportunity to pitch their ideas to filmmakers. New this year, CIFF is teaming up with the New York Times to offer the first Op-Docs pitch in North America, with winners receiving the opportunity to produce an Op-Doc for the New York Times.
We’re proud sponsors of CIFF and look forward to what promises to be a great festival and a very busy weekend!
